Intercessions for March 22nd (from Claire Sillince):
Today we celebrate Laetare Sunday , when traditionally there is some lightening of the solemnities of Lent and also Mothering Sunday.
We praise and bless you for all the simple things we take so easily for granted in normal times. We acknowledge that we so easily fail to celebrate what we have as ‘gift’ and grasp for more. May we focus on your love which reaches out to us always and at all time and which sometimes we fail to return.
We ask your blessing on our mothers and those who have been as mothers to us , particularly those we cannot now see or visit in person.
We pray for our friends and families during these challenging times. May they know the security of your care regardless of events.
Lord in your Mercy....
We pray that you would give wisdom to our government and the Leaders of the Nations. Help them to acknowledge our common need and humanity which transcend the divisions of race, gender and self-interest of all kinds.
May we who profess the name of Jesus Christ live as Children of Light, demonstrating our faith in prayer and acts of service.
Lord in your Mercy.....
Lord, help us to reflect on our greed and exploitation of the environment, focussing on the grace and simplicity of a life based on love of you and of our neighbour.
Lord in your Mercy....
Lord, be with all essential workers, particularly healthcare staff, who are putting their own lives and health at risk in the service of others. Strengthen us to support them in prayer and acts of service and charity.
Make us mindful of the vulnerable in our midst and those who may struggle through lack of income.
We remember before you particularly those of us from Iran and other far-flung places concerned for the current welfare of loved ones left behind.
Lord in your Mercy.....
Lord, be with the sick, particularly those who are seriously ill in hospital, fearing for their lives and lacking the comfort of loved ones at their bedside.
Help us cling to and offer to others your assurance, made through the psalmist ‘...Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me’.
Lord in your Mercy......
We pray for those who have recently died and also for those whose anniversaries fall at this time.
We bring to you our own thanks and petitions...................
May the Blessed Virgin Mary, St James and all the saints pray for us in our current need.
Merciful Father......

And to finish, an organ voluntary:
A rather last-minute decision was made, following the announcement of the suspension of public worship for the near future, to attempt to record a number of organ voluntaries that would likely have been played over the coming Sundays. These are all one-take recordings done on an iPhone8Plus resting on a nearby music stand, so some interesting effects ensue when lower pedal notes are played... ! (As such, these videos are also probably optimised for phones...)
First up here is my regular go-to voluntary for Mothering Sunday: Siegfried Karg-Elert's "Nun Danket Alle Gott" (from 66 Chorale Improvisations Op. 65), based on the hymn tune of the same name, with the familiar words starting "Now thank we all our God". We often sing this hymn on Mothering Sunday, with the line "Who from our mother's arms / Hath blessed us on our way / With countless gifts of love, / And still is ours today."
